About Cori

Cori Elwood was born and raised in northern California and moved to southeast Georgia in 2018 where she currently resides on the Birdsville bicentennial farm near Millen, GA. She got her bachelor’s degree in Conservation Biology / Vertebrate Ecology in 2010 from Humboldt State University and specialized in Herpetology (the study of reptiles and amphibians).

She then went on to work numerous field jobs in herpetology from the federally threatened Flat-tailed Horned Lizards in southern California all the way to central Florida with her work on the endangered Florida Sand Skink. In addition to her duties she took every chance she got to share her passion with the public, leading expeditions for children and adults alike to discover firsthand the amazing world of herpetology.

Her passion for wildlife conservation is followed closely by her love of filmmaking. She went on to receive a Master of Fine Arts degree in Filmmaking, with a Documentary focus, graduating with honors in 2014 from the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles, California.

Since graduating she worked in the narrative film industry for four additional years, gaining experience in commercials, television, live events, and full-length feature films. 2020 marks her 5th season as a Production Coordinator on the Emmy's Award Show.

She started working at Magnolia Springs State Park in Millen, Georgia as a Naturalist in 2018. Gaining two additional years of experience educating the public on wildlife and nature gave her the courage and the determination to change people’s minds about the less “loved” animals and find ways for people to live alongside wildlife safely and with respect.

Cori aspires to create wildlife documentaries that are just as entertaining as they are informative using the narrative storytelling techniques of popular Hollywood films.

She then started working as a veterinary technician in Georgia, and later as the manager of the veterinary clinic, and was surrounded by animal lovers of all varieties.

Today, Cori focuses her time on mastering the art of illustration and painting to tell her conservation messages in a unique way, running Cori's Critters, and continually works towards her ultimate goal of becoming an influential wildlife conservation artist and storyteller.
